Guiding Our Economic Future by Enhancing High-Speed, Broadband Internet Access in Rural Marathon County

Our existing broadband access is bad for business in Marathon County. Not all businesses and residents in Marathon County have access to reliable, high-speed internet — and that puts us at a disadvantage attracting businesses and recruiting talented people to live and work here. 

Area farmers and rural teachers find it especially hard to do their jobs without reliable wireless internet. Marathon County Government was tasked with hiring a consulting firm that specializes in assisting communities with broadband expansion to help us create an action plan. DREAM BIG: 2056 :: Sellout Crowd Congratulated Mary Thao & Yauo Yang, Co-Winners of the 2019 Stanley F. Staples Award (& Was Wowed by an Award-Winning Video by DCE Students)

Two winners — Mary Thao and Yauo Yang — jointly received the 2019 Stanley F. Staples Award at the Dream Big: 2056 event earlier this month.

Find out the recipients of 4 college scholarships, making it more possible for Hmong students to achieve their academic potential, and learn which local principal won the much-anticipated “Dance-Off” by performing a traditional Hmong dance for the crowd.

Stanley F. Staples Jr. “Person of the Year” Award Finalists Announced

The 2019 recipient of the Stanley F. Staples Jr. Award will be announced on April 6, 2019, at the “Dream Big: 2056” banquet at the Hilton Garden Inn in Rib Mountain. The award (sponsored by the Ruder Ware Law Firm) is given annually in recognition of contributions to the advancement of Hmong people in Marathon County.

Regional Economic Development Strategic Plan Recommends a New “Greater Wausau Prosperity Partnership”
