Rib Mountain Adventure Challenge
Saturday, May 27, 2017 • Within 10 miles of Rib Mountain State Park (exact location TBA)

Feet will pound up the mountain, hands will pull through the water, and legs will FEEL the burn as the third annual Rib Mountain Adventure Challenge gets underway. Come out and show your support as teams of 2–4 members run, bike, and paddle their way through the rugged and beautiful Central Wisconsin wilderness using only a map and compass to find their way.

Raptors Invade Monk Gardens
Saturday, June 10, 2017 • Monk Botanical Gardens | Wausau
Raptors will be invading the Monk Botanical Gardens, Saturday, June 10, in cooperation with the Raptor Education Group, Inc. (REGI) of Antigo.
It’s an up-close and personal viewing of some of the sharpest SIGHTED birds in the animal kingdom.
Time is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the cost is $3 for children; $5 for adults. There will be $2 picture-taking opportunities from 11:00–11:30 a.m. and 1:00–1:30 p.m.
Rain date is Sunday, June 11.

Karyn Powers joined the Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department in 1991. Prior to settling in Marathon County, she spent 5 years working for the Department of Defense in Morale, Welfare, and Recreation Services for the U.S. Navy in Iceland and the U.S. Army in South Korea. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Park and Recreation Administration and a master’s degree in Education. In addition to being the city/county Recreation Superintendent, she is a published poet and author. Karyn fell in love with Marathon County as a college senior when she interned here in 1979, then traveled halfway around the world to get back here as soon as was possible. Email Karyn Powers
